Window Cleaning History
The First Window Cleaning Squeegee
The first squeegee ever invented was call the "Chicago Squeege". It was a tool with many problems. It was bulky, not easily used. And with two pink rubber blades, it was a heavy tool. Changing the blades involved loosening twelve srews. Thus, there was much to improve upon.
That is where Ettore Steccone comes in.
Mr. Steccone, an italian immigrant who migrated to the U.S. in 1921, patented the modern single-blade window cleaning squeegee in 1936. It was lightweight brass with a single flexible and sharp rubber blade. This squeegee is still widely used to this day. He first named his invention "New Deal", but as time went on, it took on the new named, "Ettore Master".
